The Summit of the Americas & the FTAA       

  • The Declaration of the Second Peoples' Summit of the Americas: English, Français, Español, Português.
  • The Council of Canadians has completed an extensive paper on the FTAA: The Threat of the Free Trade Area of the Americas. The document is available in 4 different languages: English, Français, Español, and Português.
  • On April 15-18, 1998, about a thousand men and women from nearly every nation of the hemisphere gathered for the First Peoples' Summit of the Americas in Santiago, Chile. They expressed their collective rejection of the dominant "neo-liberal" agenda that promotes trade and investment liberalization, deregulation, privatization, and market-driven economics as the formula for development, a formula that has been disasterous for most peoples of the hemisphere. The resulting document Alternatives for the Americas is available online in four languages: English, Français, Español, and Português.
  • The April 2001 issue of Multinational Monitor is full of information about free 
    trade policy and the FTAA.
  • The chapter on  "investor rights" in the FTAA has now been made public. 

  • Foreign Policy in Focus, a joint project of the Interhemispheric Resource Center
